This is how children circumvent the "Screen Time" restrictions in iOS 12

Here the one who does not run flies, Apple launched a new and interesting feature with iOS 12 that allowed parents to limit the time of use of apple devices, either to limit the use of Apps or the use of the device in general.

It is evident that the children have not liked this new option at all, but the truth is that they have not taken long to find several ways to skip it. Let's hope that Apple takes note of this post so that it takes the appropriate measures. I also hope my 10 year old daughter doesn't read this article...

Method 1: Making time pass…

This is the method with which infants have had to think the least to get more time out of restricted devices.

It's very simple, all you have to do is go to the clock settings and put an hour or day before the inactivity setting, so it will never be time to detach from the iDevice.

There is no solution for this method, the only possible one is for parents to be attentive and check the time and day of the device if they believe that the imposed time limit is not working.

It would be nice if Apple helped out here by adding a restriction to prevent the device from changing the date and time unless the password is known.

Method 2 – Uninstall the app and reinstall it

This method was discovered by a 7-year-old boy, the father of the little angel noticed that he was playing too much time with his iPad games despite the fact that he had put a time restriction on them, the father was puzzled, but he could not figure out why his son he could play as long as he wanted with the iPad.

In the end the boy confessed what he was doing. When time ran out and the app crashed, the kid would uninstall it and then reinstall it by tapping the cloud symbol in the App Store. When an application has been previously installed, the system does not ask you for the password to put it back on your device. In addition, the boy discovered that when i reinstalled it the restriction was completely gone and i could play as long as i wanted.

When uninstalling the App, the restriction is also deleted and it would have to be reprogrammed on the iPhone.

The solution here is to put a restriction to prevent Apps from being uninstalled. There is also one that prevents anyone from downloading applications, but by doing that we are also prohibiting updates, so it is better to opt for the first option, if you cannot delete it, you cannot reinstall it either.

To say that the father in this story couldn't even get angry with his son and the truth is that I couldn't have either, the boy showed a lot of intelligence when he invented this method. And that at 7 years old, you'll see when he's 15...

Method 4: Prevent your parents from accessing the restrictions settings

This is the most cheeky method, what they do is go to the Screentime settings and put a password that nobody knows, in this way their parents cannot access these settings and therefore cannot limit anything.

For this problem I can think of two possible solutions:

  • Solution 1 (non-technological): Requisition the device and make it disappear in the underworld until the end of days. You won't be able to access the device's settings, but they won't see it anymore because they're too smart, problem solved...
  • 2 Solution: How do you read? iPhoneA2 You are one step ahead of them, do you know that there is a way to get the password for the restrictions settings without having to restore the device? well yes there is, you can see how to recover restrictions password  Step by Step in the article linked above.

Well, now you know some of the methods that kids use to bypass device restrictions.

Apple has put a very good tool in the hands of parents so that our children do not abuse their devices, but that does not mean that we have to relax and leave everything in the hands of the programming we do, we must remain attentive to ensure that our children make responsible use of the devices within your reach.

Hello Diego, thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge…. On the subject of restrictions on the time of use, once in restriction mode, opening the app gives you the option to ignore the time of use 1 min, 15 or the whole day... but what is this?... how come Does this option appear in all "restricted" apps?

    a cordial greeting.
