While other platforms, such as Telegram, allow us to send images and files in their original resolution in a very simple way, the process to send an image via WhatsApp without losing quality on the iPhone is quite complex.
In Android it is much easier because any application can access the system and search for the images that you want to send as a file. But in iOS, as we all know, things are much more complicated.
In order to send photos by WhatsApp without losing quality, we are forced to turn to the Files app. Let's remember that this application is the only one where all applications can store their files unlike Android where the entire system is available.
Send photos by WhatsApp without losing quality from the iPhone
The limitations of iOS, which in turn is one of its main features, force us to copy the images and videos that we want to share through WhatsApp to the Files application.
Once we have copied the images and videos to the Files application, we can trick WhatsApp and tell it that we want to share a file.
By doing so, WhatsApp will open the Files application from which we can share the content without any type of compression. To carry out this process, we must carry out the steps that I show you below:
The first thing we must do is copy all the images and videos that we want to share through WhatsApp in the Files application.
To do so, we just have to select them, click on the Share button and select the Save to Files option.
Once we have copied the images to the Files application, we go to the WhatsApp application and perform the following steps:
- We open WhatsApp, click on the clip and select Document.
- We head up to folder where we have stored our images, we select them and click on Open.

macOS does not have the same limitations as iOS, so we do not have to copy the images we want to share as files before sharing them, we just have to follow the steps that I show you below:
- We open the WhatsApp application, select the chat where we want to share the image and click on the clip located to the left of the box where we write.
- Next, click on Document.
- Next, the Finder will open. If the image is stored in the Photos application, we can access it from the Finder and select it to send it as a document.
If we choose the Photo option, when accessing the images stored in the Photos application, we will not have the option to send images in .HEIC format, so it is recommended to use the Document option.
If you're sharing the image with users who don't use an iPhone or it's a very old Android device, they won't be able to open the image.
Send photos by WhatsApp without losing quality from WhatsApp Web
If we want to send images without losing quality through WhatsApp Web, the process is exactly the same as with the Mac application.
- We access WhatsApp Web (link), we select the chat where we want to share the image and click on the clip located to the left of the box where we write.
- Next, click on Document.
- Next, the Finder will open. If the image is stored in the Photos application, we can access it from the Finder and select it to send it as a document.
If you're sharing the image with users who don't use an iPhone or it's a very old Android device, they won't be able to open the image.
From iCloud
A faster option for us, but less comfortable for the user who will receive the images is through a link to iCloud. If you use iCloud to store your photos, you can create a link to the images and videos you want to share in their original resolution.
To create a link to iCloud of the images that we want to share, we must perform the steps that I show you below:
- We open the photos application and select the photos and videos that we want to share.
- Next, click on the Share button and select the Copy iCloud link button.
- With that link, which is stored on the clipboard, we must paste it into the WhatsApp chat where we want to share the images.
That link is available for 30 days.
Mail Drop
Another of the options that we have at our disposal to send images without losing quality, but not through WhatsApp, is using Mail Drop.
This function uses iCloud regardless of whether we have a contracted storage plan or only the free 5 GB plan.
Mail Drop is a feature that Apple offers to all iOS users that allows you to send images and videos in their original resolution via email.
This function is only available through the email associated with the Apple account and works as follows:
- We select all the images and files that we want to share.
- Next, click on the Share button and select the Mail application (native iOS mail application where we must configure our Apple account).
- We write the email address with whom we want to share the images or ours to receive the link that gives access to the images and share it through WhatsApp.
- Next, click on Send and the application will show us 4 options:
- Small
- Medium
- Big
- Real size. We select the latter.
- Next, a message will be displayed inviting us to use Mail Drop. Click on that option and wait to receive the message with the link.
All images available through this link are available for 30 days. After that period of time, the link will automatically cease to be available.
