What is AirDrop and how to use it

Using airdrop is very easy on our iPhone

AirDrop is an ad-hoc service from Apple Inc on the macOS and iOS operating systems, introduced in Mac OS X Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) and iOS 7,1. What is it for? This tool allows you to file transfer between compatible computers and iOS devices over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, without using email or a mass storage device.

It is used for the transfer between a Mac and an iOS device as well as between two Mac computers 2012 or later, and that uses both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Legacy mode for the old AirDrop protocol (which only uses Wi-Fi) between two Mac computers from 2012 or earlier is also available. The most interesting thing about Airdrop is that there is no restriction on file size what AirDrop can accommodate.

AirDrop uses the  TLS encryption via a peer-to-peer Wi-Fi connection created by Apple to transfer files. The Wi-Fi radios of the source and destination devices communicate directly without using an internet connection or Wi-Fi Hotspot. However, it does not have foolproof encryption as in at least one case, a user with AirDrop set to "Everyone" received unwanted sexually explicit images from a nearby stranger. The New York Post also reported that at least two women received photos naked while traveling.

As we have seen, AirDrop always requires confirmation by the recipient to accept a shipment. Unless it is between devices with the same Apple ID, where for convenience this step is not necessary. An additional measure of security in AirDrop is who can share with you: contacts only, everyone, or off.

To modify it, open the control center and hold your finger on the ring for airplane mode, Wi-Fi, bluetooth and data. Next, a rectangle will be displayed that, in addition to these antennas and modes, adds AirDrop and Personal Access Point. Finally, click on AirDrop and you will find shipping restrictions that we have seen.

Sending and receiving files by Airdrop

Before you start make sure that the recipient is close and within range of the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi network. Check that both you and the recipient have the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options activated. If either of you has Personal Hotspot turned on, turn it off. Check if the recipient has their AirDrop configured to receive from Contacts Only. If so, and you're in their contacts, AirDrop must have your Apple ID email address or mobile phone number on your contact card for AirDrop to work.

If you're not in their contacts, ask them to set their AirDrop receive settings to "everyone" so they can receive the file. You can define at any time the reception of AirDrop as "contacts only" or "reception disabled" to control who can see your device and send you content in AirDrop.

On iPhone 11 or later, open an app and tap Share. If you share a photo from the Photos app, you can swipe left or right with one finger to select multiple photos. Tap the AirDrop button. If the person you want to share the photo with has an iPhone 11 or later, point your iPhone in the direction of the other iPhone.

To finish, tap the user's profile picture at the top of the screen. Or you can use AirDrop between your own Apple devices. if you see a number indicated in red on the AirDrop button, it means there are multiple devices nearby you can share content with. Tap the AirDrop button and then the user you want to share content with.

With AirDrop you can also share contacts

How to accept AirDrop requests

When someone shares something with you using AirDrop, you'll see an alert with a preview. You can tap Accept or Decline.
If you accept, you will receive the AirDrop content in the app from which it was sent. For example, photos will appear in the Photos app, while web pages will appear in Safari. App links open in the App Store so you can download or buy them.
If you AirDrop something to yourself, like a photo from your iPhone to your Mac, you will not see any option to accept or reject it, but it will be automatically sent to your device. Make sure both devices are signed in with the same Apple ID.

As you can see, AirDrop is the perfect tool since you don't need to have any application like WhatsApp installed. airdrop is coming base installed with your Apple device. You also do not need to give your personal information such as email or your phone number. Therefore, we believe that it is the best option to keep your personal data and at the same time transfer and receive files instantly.
